SciHonor Devotion, CPM began her studies in the field of Reproductive Health in 1999 with her first pregnancy. She then trained and certified over the years as a Birth Doula, Postpartum Doula, Childbirth Educator, Maternal Child Health Specialist, Certified Lactation Counselor, Perinatal Mental Health Support Group Facilitator, and Homebirth Midwife Assistant. Currently, she works as a Certified Professional Midwife supporting families having home and birth center births. She established Earth’s Natural Touch: Birth Care & Beyond in 2001. In 2016 she created the Advanced Doula Skills: Beyond the Basics Program in response to the national need for more racially diverse and competent doulas to support families from a culturally aligned & responsive lens.
What kinds of advocacy work is ENT involved in?
This is a REALLY important question to ask the training organizations you are considering because it helps you to understand the functions, goals, and intentions of the organization you choose to train with. We could train Doulas every weekend with a 2-5 day training and make money doing so. However, we are not interested in training hundreds and thousands of Doulas, then sending them out into an unstable or nonexistent workforce. We have been working for 6 years with legislators, community members, and organizations both in and out of state, to ensure that equitable, culturally responsive doula care is accessible to the families who would benefit from it the most, and also so that doulas can make a living wage doing the work they trained to do. We hope that local change will influence national change for all Doulas. We facilitate workshops on the Black reproductive experience for medical professionals & medical students and enjoy speaking at colleges and universities. We are focused on creating sustainable, long-term systems for doulas and families, and value quality over quantity. We are also working in partnership with local and national organizations to impact birth outcomes in undervalued communities. Our partners include March of Dimes, The CT State Office of Early Childhood, New Haven Healthy Start, Waterbury Bridge to Success, Community Alliance for Research & Engagement, and others. To see more about our legislative efforts for Doulas in Connecticut, see our BIRTH JUSTICE page.
1. We could go on and on. but in short, the use of racially, socially and culturally aligned Doulas as part of a person’s care team has proven medical, mental, physical and emotional benefits.
2. We are a dedicated group of doulas and perinatal health advocates who love to incorporate the wisdom and cultural healing practices of our ancestors into our care, while providing culturally relevant care and evidenced based services.
3. We come to the people as the people because we are the people.
4. We are dedicated to creating state and national standards for the doula profession while maintaining our ancestral knowledge.
5. Our Doulas provide in-person support in CT, MA, RI, NY, NJ, PA, NV, MD, FL, NC, CA, and GA as well as virtual support no matter where our clients are.
Our Interdisciplinary Doulas usually complete 14-months (Approximately 160 hours) of rigorous training covering a variety of topics that prepare them to support families through basic fertility, pregnancy, labor, birth, postpartum, lactation, grief and loss, using advocacy, research & more. Class Participation, Completing Homework, Projects, Class Presentations, and passing the Final Exam are requirements.
Additional Options
Fast-Track training option. You will get the same course, but classes for this cohort will meet on an evening during the week from 5:00pm - 9:30pm EST for 8 months (instead of the 14-month Spring Cohort).
Abridged training option specifically for Agencies and Organizations who want some of their staff members (such as community health workers or home visitors) to be trained with doula skills to better support their clients during the perinatal year.
Because as Community Doulas, we know that after just 2-5 days of training, it can be challenging to navigate all of the complexities that often come with supporting families in undervalued communities, who are living with the weight of historical and generational traumas, while navigating institutional racism and all of the social & institutional determinants of health, which can all influence their reproductive choices, options, and outcomes. This program encompasses a wide range of knowledge from Conception through to Birth to Postpartum and many things in between such as Nutrition, Grief & Loss, Toxic Relationships, Birth Justice, Trauma Informed Care, Lactation & Much, Much More through several training units. Overall, this training will prepare you to support families in many environments and through a wide range of circumstances encompassing the Full Spectrum standard and beyond; becoming an Earth's Natural Touch: Birth Care & Beyond Interdisciplinary Doula (sm).
No. You will be well prepared to support clients way before you graduate. Remember, this training is called the Advanced Doula Skills: Beyond the Basics Program. During your studies, you will be learning beyond the basics of a typical doula training program.
Is this training offered virtually? Yes! Like most Doula Training programs across the country, ours is now also being offered virtually.
Preconception and Fertility, Antepartum Care, Labor/Birth Doula Support, Postpartum Doula Support, Birth Justice, Lactation Support, Grief and Loss Support & More. We even have teams that you may be interested in joining if you remain part of our alumni collective. Those teams include Birth Justice, Mocha Milkshake Cafe, Fertility Journey Partners, Grief & Loss, & more. We offer our grads an opportunity to continue to build our collective so that we can work together to continue to make systemic change and create sustainable work and educational opportunities together.
The program is appropriate for doulas-to-be and newly trained/certified doulas who are looking to gain additional knowledge and skill to provide better support to their clients, and/or and to be part of a supportive collective. Many doulas have expressed the lack of skill, diversity, cultural responsiveness, or cultural and experiential alignment in the trainings that they have previously taken. Rest assured, if you are of the global majority, you will see yourself in this program. Our curriculum covers knowledge of a variety of cultural practices. You will graduate with a wealth of knowledge and the ability to handle and navigate tough situations and circumstances. If you need assistance along the way, you have an entire doula collective to support you...we are DEEP and well connected to each other!
Being part of our community is an amazing experience. This program has been compared to a rite of passage into each student’s growth and development, no matter how young or old they are. We have had students aged 16 to 60+. This community is a safe space to learn and explore ourselves and each other as we build bonds, heal our own traumas, support each other through life’s transitions, and of course work on assignments, presentations, community service, homework, projects & more. If you are selected to join the Information Session, you will get to meet some of the current students & graduates who can tell you more about their experiences.
What is the cost of the program?
It all depends. In the past, we have been able to partner with individuals or organizations to provide scholarships or rewards to students who complete the program. Your fee could depend on what is available to us at the time. Our Finance Department determines each year’s price and has that information ready to share during the Information Session. If you are invited to attend after essay submission, you will not only meet students and grads, but you will also hear all about the program, including the fee for the second 2025 and 2026 cohorts.
You will receive 2 Certificates: Earth's Natural Touch: Birth Care & Beyond Certified Interdisciplinary Doula (eCID) & ENT Peer Lactation Counselor. This training curriculum meets Connecticut’s Training Requirements for State Certification, with didactic learning that surpasses the standard training requirements for every other state we have seen that offers a state certification option. Our Doulas are Medicaid Eligible in CT with other states pending depending on if those states offer this benefit. Our Doulas are Medicaid Eligible in CT, with other states pending depending on if those states offer this benefit. Our Trainers meet all CT state Doula Trainer standards as well.
Why is there an application process to this training program?
There is an application process because this is a serious commitment. Our community is strong, and our trainings can be very intimate. We want to be sure that you are comfortable with us, that you align with our values, and vice versa. This is more than just your typical Doula Training. This is a Collective of Doulas. We are not a "Pay-To-Play" Doula Training Program. If you don't want to be loved on in a circle full of supportive students, encouraged and held accountable, please don't apply.
How long has Earth's Natural Touch: Birth Care & Beyond been training Doulas?
We are not new to this. We are going into our 10th year training community doulas. We are the largest Black Owned Doula Training Organization & Collective based in the New England area. However, our graduates are in multiple states across the country supporting families including Connecticut, Massachusetts, Rhode Island, Nevada, New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Florida, North Carolina, Georgia, California, Maryland and Indiana. Although we have trained a variety of races and ethnicities, and our graduates will support all families, our program has always been designed with Black families at the center.

“If you’re looking for a doula training that focuses on how to better serve Black and Brown families before, during, and after pregnancy, then ENT is it! The wealth of information gained, the love and support from the sisterhood, and the devotion of the organization as a whole is immeasurable. I am so grateful to have found my birth work tribe.”
“For a while, I was deeply interested in becoming a doula and being a support for birthing people, but I wasn’t sure where to start. Then one night, I came across ENT’s advertisement while scrolling on Facebook, and it felt like divine timing. I’m so grateful I followed that nudge. Becoming a part of the ENT Doula Sisterhood has truly been a transformative experience. I cherish the opportunity to share space with others who are just as passionate about maternal health and birth justice as I am. Throughout this journey, I have learned so much, not just about birth work, but about myself. I’ve grown alongside a powerful cohort of women who have inspired me, uplifted me, and taught me more than I could have imagined. I couldn’t have asked for better sisters to walk this path with. I’m proud to be an ENT Doula because this program doesn’t just teach you how to be a doula, it teaches you how to embody the role and how to serve with confidence, compassion, and cultural awareness. I now feel prepared, empowered, and deeply supported as I step into this sacred work. Thank you, ENT, for pouring into us. I carry this sisterhood with me wherever I go.”
" Super Dope! To be on Zoom with so many women of different shades of brown was the most amazing thing ever… Being our authentic selves and led by a woman with such knowledge and charisma, who taught us during her journey of Midwifery school. This was a no-judgment journey, and I would recommend this program to any woman interested in ground-shaking work. I am proud...ENT Forever.”
“I knew I wanted to train to be a doula. I looked into several training programs. When I came across ENT, I followed them for a year or so before I was ready to apply. I knew this was the place for me. I have not 1 regret for choosing ENT, and I am so grateful that ENT chose me. ENT is 10/10, and is highly recommended. I’ve learned so much, and to be honest, I don’t believe I’ve had to work so hard for something that is so meaningful to me before. The criteria are top-tier, and the knowledge I gained is immersive. ENT has taught me not only how to be there to support our Black and Brown families, but it has helped me confirm my calling: to support mothers/women and families, to know maternal rights, to advocate, and to educate mothers and families. It has taught my introverted self about sisterhood, which I value so much, and I look forward to continued connections and collaboration with my Doula sisters. The sisterhood, I hold in high esteem. I've leaned on my sisters as they have leaned on me, all with open arms. Again, I am looking forward to being a part of ENT and its sisterhood. Thank you ENT, I am forever grateful for this opportunity and what’s to come next within it.”
“I've always been the person to ask why and explore further; this is why I knew a shorter training program would not work for my inquisitive nature. When a friend told me about ENT I knew I had found what I was seeking. ENT has pushed and expanded my point of view, understanding about the birthing body, the pregnancy journey, and the tragic state women's health is in. At the same time, showing where positive and healing changes can take place. I was challenged to rethink and learn how beautiful and powerful pregnancy can be. I am grateful to have shared laughter and tears with some beautiful, like-minded individuals in my class . Thank You SciHonor Devotion for sharing your vision.”
“Earth’s Natural Touch is not your typical doula training. This 14-month intensive experience expands your knowledge, perceptions, and expectations of what it means to be not only a birth worker but also a leader in your community. Our job is to build relationships, educate families, and advocate for the importance of informed consent in order to have the best possible birthing outcomes. You will not be disappointed in joining this sisterhood, and I recommend this program to anyone who is motivated to make tangible change. 10/10. ”
“ My time with ENT was truly a meaningful and transformative experience. During the program, I was able to build genuine connections within the sisterhood and step outside of my comfort zone in ways that helped me grow both personally and professionally. I chose this program because I knew that if I wanted to work in this field, I needed a solid foundation of knowledge, not just a brief overview. Most of the programs I came across were only three days long, and I didn’t feel comfortable supporting women through one of the most important experiences of their lives without in-depth training. When I learned about ENT and the extensive content it covered, I immediately knew it was the right fit.
I wanted to feel confident and capable while supporting mothers, and ENT gave me that confidence.
One of the most valuable takeaways from this program was the emphasis on advocacy for the BIPOC community and the acknowledgment of the disparities we face as women. Being surrounded by like-minded women, sharing our stories, and learning together made the journey even more empowering.
If someone is considering applying to this program, I would tell them that if you’re looking to go beyond the basics and truly immerse yourself in what it means to be a doula, ENT is the right choice. But be prepared to commit. This is not a program for someone who isn’t ready to show up fully, it requires time, dedication, and a willingness to sacrifice some of your free time. But it’s absolutely worth it.
The support I received from the ENT sisterhood was incredible and played a big role in my success. Sci Honor is an exceptional educator. Her passion is evident in everything she does, and the knowledge she shares is both comprehensive and deeply meaningful. I’m grateful for this experience and everything it’s prepared me for moving forward.””
" A certified Earth's Natural Touch Doula is able to assist families in a plethora of areas including preconception/fertility support, lactation support, grief and loss support, postpartum support, and more. This training is not for the weak, and it will grow you as a person if you allow it to. The sisterhood that comes with the training seems too good to be true--it ain't! As an enrollee in one of the first virtual cohorts, I can say that the sisterhood is real whether in person or not.”
“It truly is a calling to become a doula and it shouldn't be taken lightly. This program gets tough and heavy. It is not for the weak or uncertain! This has been the most extensive, time-consuming, fulfilling, and purposeful course I've ever taken. I have gained so much knowledge and wisdom about this work as well as practices and habits that have made me a better person. The sense of community and guidance in this sisterhood cannot be found anywhere else. (Google it!) Thank you SciHonor for cultivating this space, being such a leading light, and doing the work! "If you want to go fast, go alone. If you want to go far, go together" is right and I couldn't imagine embarking on this journey with any other group of women.” -
“ENT is THEE BEST certifying doula program HANDS DOWN!! How do I know? I know because years ago, I certified with a different organization, and as time passed, I watched things go terribly wrong right before my eyes. Sci has planted, watered, and put her hands to the plow due to her passion for birthwork and community! This isn't JUST a doula program; IT'S A VILLAGE!! A village that works together, cries together, and heals together. This rigorous program is chock-full of information I never realized I needed... even after serving clients for years prior! Today, I'm a better doula than I was before because of ENT and the dedication we all have together. If you're looking for a program, ENT is the best without a doubt.”

Women have the highest rates of maternal mortality and morbidity. This Beyond Equity Training is designed for birth workers, medical professionals, and agencies or organizations who are invested in eliminating racial disparities in birth outcomes.
In this training, participants will gain a deeper understanding of the experiences of Black people in America, while acquiring the tools to recognize, understand, and confront their own anti-blackness. Participants can expect to leave this training with a firmer grasp of maternal health experiences for Black women, as well as the knowledge needed to eradicate the current systems of racism that still impact those outcomes today. We at ENT believe this knowledge is imperative in order to work effectively within communities that have been generationally divested in and undervalued.
