Sis, Don’t Let Them Turn You Away!

Pregnant woman with slogan 'Sis, Don't Let Them Turn You Away!'

Pregnancy and Postpartum Advocacy Guide

Pregnancy, birth, and postpartum can come with a lot of information, decisions, questions, and sometimes difficult healthcare experiences. Earth’s Natural Touch: Birth Care & Beyond, Inc. created the Sis, Don’t Let Them Turn You Away! Advocacy Guide to help pregnant and postpartum people and their support teams better understand their rights, recognize warning signs, communicate with healthcare providers, make informed decisions, build their village, and find community support.

You don't have to read the entire guide at once. We've divided it into individual sections so you can download the information that is most useful to you, or download the complete Advocacy Guide and keep it as a resource throughout pregnancy, birth, and postpartum.

💜 Wear the Bracelet. Know What It Means.

The “Sis, Don’t Let Them Turn You Away!” bracelet is more than a bracelet. It is a reminder to trust your instincts, speak up when something doesn't feel right, and let healthcare providers know that you are pregnant or have given birth within the past year. Wear it as a visible reminder that your concerns deserve to be heard, your questions deserve answers, and your health deserves timely attention. It also reminds your village to stand beside you, support your voice, and help you seek care when you need it.

💜 Meet the Dad-Bassadors & Community Ambassadors

Sis, Don’t Let Them Turn You Away! Campaign

Sis, Don’t Let Them Turn You Away! is not a campaign that requires pregnant and postpartum people to advocate alone. Protecting mothers, babies, and families is a community responsibility. Our Dad-Bassadors and Community Ambassadors help carry that responsibility by learning about the campaign, sharing its message, encouraging families to recognize concerns and seek timely care, and helping build a community where people feel supported and heard.

Wear the Message: “Sis, Don’t Let Them Turn You Away!”

Get Your “Sis, Don’t Let Them Turn You Away!” Bracelet Today!

At Earth's Natural Touch: Birth Care & Beyond, Inc., we know that knowledge builds confidence. When you understand your options, know what questions to ask, recognize when something doesn't feel right, and have a trusted support system beside you, you're better prepared to make informed decisions and advocate for the care you deserve.

This campaign was created to encourage confidence, not fear. Most pregnancies are healthy, and most families will never experience a serious complication. However, knowing the warning signs, understanding your rights, and communicating openly with your healthcare team can help you feel more confident throughout pregnancy, birth, and the postpartum period.

Black women are 3-4x more likely to die from pregnancy related conditions. We are more likely to experience severe complications related to pregnancy. We are more likely to not be listened to and believed when expressing concerns to our providers.

The CDC says that more than 85% of maternal deaths are preventable. It seems like it's up to us to start trying to prevent them.

These advocacy bracelets can be worn during pregnancy and for at least 1 YEAR after delivery. They serve as a reminder for Pregnant and Postpartum people to get the care they deserve when they know that something is wrong or simply aren't being listened to when asking questions or expressing concerns to their medical providers.

Each bracelet is accompanied by an Advocacy Reminder Card with a QR Code leading families to the 70+ page Pregnancy and Postpartum Advocacy Guidebook with lots of information on pregnancy and postpartum warning signs, how to advocate for themselves, what to do if they are not being listened to, and more.

Who may want to buy these advocacy bracelets?
-Nurses for their patients
-Doulas for their clients
-Public health advocates and state health departments for their communities
-Community organizations for the families they support
-Neighbors, family, friends, coworkers, etc. who know and love a pregnant or postpartum person.
-Anyone who cares about the health and well being of pregnant and postpartum mothers and their babies.

These bracelets can even be given to strangers as you pass them by.

Keeping mothers and babies healthy should be the goal of everyone. The health of the community impacts us all.

Thank you for standing with us and participating in the “Sis, Don’t Let Them Turn You Away!” campaign. By learning, sharing, speaking up, and supporting one another, you are helping build a community where every family knows their voice matters and deserves to be heard. We invite you to keep learning, keep asking questions, and keep advocating for yourself and others.
