Earth’s Natural Touch: Birth Care & Beyond, Inc. created the Sis, Don’t Let Them Turn You Away! Advocacy Guide to help pregnant and postpartum people and their support teams better understand their rights, recognize warning signs, communicate with healthcare providers, make informed decisions, build their village, and find community support.
You don't have to read the entire guide at once. We've divided it into individual sections so you can download the information that is most useful to you, or download the complete Advocacy Guide and keep it as a resource throughout pregnancy, birth, and postpartum.

It is a reminder to trust your instincts, speak up when something doesn't feel right, and let healthcare providers know that you are pregnant or have given birth within the past year. Wear it as a visible reminder that your concerns deserve to be heard, your questions deserve answers, and your health deserves timely attention. It also reminds your village to stand beside you, support your voice, and help you seek care when you need it.

Campaign, a community effort focused on helping Black families recognize their rights, communicate with their healthcare providers, ask questions, advocate for themselves, and know when they need to push for answers. Because being heard shouldn't depend on who you are, how you speak, or whether someone believes you.

What Should I Ask?
Sometimes, the hardest part of speaking up is knowing what to ask in the first place.
You may be told that you need a test, medication, procedure, induction, surgery, or another intervention. You may hear a medical term you've never heard before. You may even be given information that sounds important but don't know what questions would help you understand it. That's okay. But, you want to be sure you understand before you agree, disagree, or walk away.
